Out and About currently consists of two enthusiasts  – my loyal assistant, inspiration, and support – rescue pup Tao, and myself, Tena, a mathematician in eternal pursuit of a way to creatively express myself and at the same time to contribute to something that is important to me. Since rescuing Tao, I felt the need to raise awareness about the importance of understanding these beings with whom we have chosen to share our lives and homes with, especially those who are fearful and reactive. Those who are or have been caregivers to reactive or fearful dogs know how challenging it is to work towards their recovery from various traumas or lack of socialization in early puppyhood, in order for them to heal and learn to function in a world filled with stimuli and misunderstanding of their nature. Healing is what I have wanted for Tao from the very beginning, along with the opportunity for him to enjoy natural dog behaviors during his time in this world as much as possible.

Out and About came to life as a bridge between my desire to raise awareness about dog welfare, and what I can offer at this moment to dog guardians and their dogs – equipment that is not physically harmful and minimizes stress when putting on (Y-harnesses with neck buckle), equipment that makes even the most fearful safe from escaping without causing unnecessary discomfort (harnesses with an additional strap around the torso), and equipment that gives them maximum freedom to be who they are – dogs (long lines).

Making the gear with my own two hands has turned out to be a true meditation for me, when my otherwise restless mind can take a break and solely focus on tailoring.
